How to improve before you reassess

Use your report to plan what to study, practise without wasting a fresh measurement, and know what GyaniX shows you before you pay for a retake.

Written for: Anyone who has a GyaniX report and wants their next attempt to show real progress.

Begin with the development plan

Your report ends with a short development plan made from your own answers. Follow its order: the weakest skills first, the basics before harder material. Skills marked “too few questions to judge” are worth a look, but the report has not shown a weakness there.

Study the topics, not the questions

A reassessment is useful only if it measures what you know, not what you remember. Use the topic list on the assessment page, your textbooks, course material or the people who trained you, and practise applying ideas to new situations. Memorising answers to particular questions does not make you better at the skill, and a paper made of questions you have already seen would not show it if you were.

Give it time

There is no fixed waiting period, but improvement takes real practice. Measuring again a few days after the first attempt mostly measures luck.

What GyaniX shows you before a retake

A retake is a new purchase and a new attempt. Before you pay, the assessment page tells you how many of the scored questions would repeat from your earlier attempt; questions you have not seen are always used first.

  • If no more than half would repeat, you can buy it as a fresh reassessment, with a new report and certificate. Your earlier certificate stays valid as the record of that attempt.
  • If more than half would repeat, GyaniX does not sell it as a fresh reassessment. It offers a clearly labelled practice attempt instead, or other suitable assessments. Nothing is charged before you choose.
  • If something changes between purchase and start so that most questions would repeat, the assessment does not start as a fresh measurement: you can take it as practice at no extra charge or ask for a refund.

Practice attempts

A practice attempt uses the same paper but is not a new measurement: it gives no certificate, adds no skill evidence to your Skills Passport and is never used in comparisons with other people. It is a safe way to test yourself after studying.

If an earlier attempt of the same paper was paid for, by you, your organisation or a sponsor, practice is free for you within a limit (currently one free practice attempt per paper every 7 days and three every 90 days). The page tells you the date of your next free one if you have reached the limit. Otherwise practice is priced like the paper, and the price is shown before you pay.

Other ways to practise

  • The sample questions on an assessment page show the question style; they are never part of the live assessment.
  • A Free Basic Assessment in the same area explains every answer.
  • A different assessment that covers your weaker topics can show progress without repeating questions.
